Here are a few pics from last month's working bee by Prospect Kiwanians at Hampstead Primary School. A good gathering of around half a dozen Kiwanis people lobbed to do some general maintenance work, mainly on a couple of raised beds in the school's garden area where the previous jungle was greatly tidied and improved. With the help of one of Hampstead's staff members (who provided soup for morning tea), we had the services of Charter member Bob Edwards (and his dog), Kuol Baak, Maureen Caporella, Ian Teague and David McNabb. It was great for our Kiwanians to provide service that didn't necessarily involve working on a sausage sizzle. Every bit helps. [Article and photos by David McNabb - thank you] ... See MoreSee Less
Our club have made a donation of $3,272 to Operation Flinders, this time towards their Next Step Program. This funding will pay for the students, youth workers and vehicles that are needed to be transported on the ferry to Kangaroo Island. Our incoming President Trevor Averay and Peter Symons made the cheque presentation to Jonathon Robran today at their headquarters. (Peter took the photo). So what is the Next Step Program? Here is a little about it:
Next Step Weekends spread throughout the year are an opportunity for previous Operation Flinders participants to learn and demonstrate leadership skills while engaging in fun, outdoor activities. The activities encourage young people to be independent and make decisions while being supported by positive adult role models, which emulates their original exercise walk and builds on existing leadership. Some of the activity weekends require the young people to cook their own meals and work as a team and may include adventure-based activities such as kayaking, mountain bike riding, bush walking and abseiling. Next Step Participants can attend just one activity weekend, or come to all.
💙 As always, members of the Kiwanis Club of Echuca Moama were on hand early this morning to cook the sausages for today's Father's Day celebrations. With hundreds of sausages waiting to be sizzled on the barbecue, their help is a tremendous help!
💙We would also like to acknowledge the parents, Mr Trewhella, Mr Leersen and Mark, for picking up the tongs, too! ... See MoreSee Less
