Are you interested in learning more about our club? Why not attend a meeting or visit us at one of our upcoming community service projects? We’d love to meet you!
🔑Kiwanis Club of Glenelg is now sponsoring the Key Club at Roma Mitchell Secondary College. Did you know: 🗝Key Club International was established in 1925 in Sacramento, California, and is now one of the world's largest student-led service organisations. 🗝Worldwide, a local Kiwanis Club sponsors a Key Club, however, the Key Club is student-led, rather than being run by the sponsoring Kiwanis Club. 🗝Key Club is designed primarily for students aged approximately 14–18 years, attending high school. 🗝Its mission is to provide opportunities for young people to perform service, build character and develop leadership. Key Clubs operate in more than 40 countries.
This week members from the Kiwanis Club of Glenelg visited Roma Mitchell Secondary College to meet students and be there as they enacted their project which is to put together Birthing Kits. Here are some photos of the process. Glenelg Club's facilitator is member Cheryl Housego who is a staff member at the school.
On Wednesday 28 October a large group of Kiwanians met at SAHMRI to view the research centre facilities and present a cheque for $10,000 to Prof. Deborah White. The cheque is from all Kiwanis clubs in Australia and specifically goes towards research into Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) to assist with funding their amazing researchers. The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) is South Australia’s independent, not-for-profit health and medical research institute. It’s home to more than 700 researchers who are dedicated to delivering better, more equitable health care through the four major research themes: Precision Medicine Cancer, Lifelong Health, SAHMRI Women’s and Kids and Aboriginal Health Equity. SAHMRI also has dedicated research programs focussed on registry science, medical imaging and health policy. The institute is housed in a purpose-built eponymous building with its iconic "cheese-grater" design. Here are some photos by Trevor Averay of the presentation and Prof. White’s thank you to the Kiwanis clubs who came together to support ALL. #KidsNeedKiwanis #KiwanisNeedsYou [VS] ...
